More questions that I have been wondering about and researching in association to standardized testing are:
How many parents understand what their child is being tested on with standardized tests?
Are there any studies about how children felt during the testing process and how they choose their answers?
Why are we using test scores to draw conclusions about classroom qualities?
Great questions!
I remember reading a book with a chapter about the reaction of kids to high stakes tests. The teacher worked all year to get her low SES kids feeling good about themselves with corresponding leaps in learning, then the tests came and pulled the carpet out from under all of her work. Let me see if I can find the reference.
Thank you I would would appreciate it!
Found these searching the Cline Library database:

Hope they help.
The chapter I was thinking about is in Vito Perrone's book:
Chapter 1 by Kathe Jervis in Perrone, V. (1991). Expanding Student Assessment. Alexandria, VA: Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. It describes an account of the effects of testing on a grade three/four classroom.
I'm not sure how difficult it will be to find this book or chapter….
Great questions…..I have wondered similar things. Are test scores being used to decipher teacher effectiveness? Classroom quality? to assess the effectiveness of pre-packaged teaching methods/strategies? Who is the testing for? Who is benefitting here? Who is clearly not?
